Padstow area

Padstow House is the perfect base for surfing, biking, walking and just lazing around on the beach. After sunset, visit the many restaurants, bars and pubs – there is so much choice! We've listed some of ours favourites below.

Activities

There is so much to do in Padstow! Maybe go crabbing in the harbour, sail or fish in the estuary, bike the Camel Trail or go walking. The pretty fishing village of Padstow has plenty of attractions from mini golf to boat rides.

If you don’t feel like doing much, then laze on a nearby beach, or people watch at our favourite harbour side wine shop and bar, Bin Two where they have even been known to serve a lobster roll alongside their perfectly chilled wines. A tour of the local Camel Vineyard is another treat, to taste Cornwall, our equivalent to Champagne. Can be reached from the Camel Trail for the energetic.

Beaches

Spend time on some of the best beaches in Cornwall just ten minutes by car or walking.

Gastronomy

Try one of Rick Stein’s four restaurants or Michelin starred Paul Ainsworth’s Number 6, Rojano’s or numerous other eatieries and pubs.

  • Rick Stein’s Café
  • Rick Stein’s Fish and Chips
  • St. Petrocs Bistro
  • The Seafood Restaurant
  • The best butcher in our view is Padstow Farm Shop at Crugmeer, about 2 miles out of Padstow – they sell everything local; fish, chicken, bread, pasties, fantastic Veg and cheese, even wine and coffee. It is well worth a trip to stock up and there are chickens around for the kids to see http://www.padstowfarmshop.co.uk. They do deliveries as well! If you want to arrange this we suggest that you may want to leave the front porch unlocked with no valuables in and the inner door locked and they can put the delivery in there so you don’t have to stay in.
  • If you are in to really great wine, you could always pre-order some from Bin Two, the local wine shop by the harbour  http://www.bintwo.com

There are many other lovely towns and villages to explore:

Port Isaac – famed for Doc Martin

Wadebridge – lovely market town for shopping

St Kew – beautiful church and pub

Check out St Enedoc’s church – once buried in sand and where John Betjeman is buried

Places to visit

If you want to travel a little further afield from the pretty village of Padstow but want to leave the car behind, what better way to explore than to take the ferry over to Rock, across the estuary where you can find restaurants, a sailing club and a dog friendly beach. Check out the Blue Tomato Cafe – amazing fresh food and interesting drinks – we loved the green lemonade! From Rock you can walk to Daymer Bay to watch the wind-surfing, either going along the sand or on the cliff path at high tide. Further along is Polzeath, the surfing village where the waves pound in relentlessly.
